Sports Nutrition...What do I take???

My wife, Rachel, and our kids, Adrienne (3) and Jayden (4 months), went to the Nature Valley Grand Prix on Saturday after staying a day in the cities. It was an amazing spectacle of talent and performance to watch. Adrienne got a cow bell from the Toyota team and was making just as much noise as she could when the riders were going by!!

After the race we were grabbing a bite to eat before we went down to Northfield for the night and got in to a conversation with a couple average in intermediate riders about sports nutrition and diet. It is obviously a large industry with alot of big names in the hat when it comes to the right sports nutrition. Everything from pre race/workout drinks and supplements to what to take during races and then what should one take after a workout.

There is alot of information out there, and, of course, every company KNOWS their product is the best! Take for example Lance Armstrong during the Tour...Postal and Discovery were said to use Endurox or whoever they were sponsored by, but, I know for a fact what Lance took...it surely was not Endurox. Now, I'm not saying that what was right for Lance is right for everyone....ACTUALLY, that is my exact point, everyone is different, now yes, we all go through biochemical processes similiarly, but we all have something I like to call BIOCHEMICAL INDIVIDUALITY. What that states is that if you had a true twin and you and he or she went through the exact same life experiences from stress to injuries, you both would still require your own specific formulation of nutrition and diet.

Where to start. DIET!!!! Forget about spending big bucks a month on high end supplements until you have a rock solid diet. Again, even with diets there are different needs for different people but there are some "no brainer" rules of the trade that all must follow. I will get into sports specific diets on a later blog.

All for now, we are off to the mountain bike race and Mont de lac this afternoon to see some friends "go fast" like Adrienne says!!!

Cheers for Now!!!

Welcome!!! Wednesday June 20, 2007

Hello and welcome to my new blog. It is here that I will be keeping patients, athletes, and those with genuine concern for their health abreast on the lastest in natural health. I am new to the Duluth area and am very excited about what it has to offer. My family and I moved here in April from Waterville,MN which is a little town in southern MN with a population of about 1800. In 2005 we opened a second clinic in Mankato MN at the request of many patients that did not like the drive to Waterville. In April I sold my practice in Waterville to purchase Northland Health & Wellness from Dr. Virginia Shapiro in Duluth, MN. I still own the clinic in Mankato and we have a great chiropractor by the name of Allen Ruduolph, DC who is an amazing doctor with alot of offer his patients.

More to come later. If anyone has requests on specifics...not hesitate to ask.
Cheers
Dr. Mongeon
